C & C Number 2: The Silly Frilly Apron

Well friends, my next project in the "sewing my way through Cotton and Curls" saga was an apron (click the link and scroll to the bottom and you'll find her tutorial). Now, I love to cook, a lot actually, I almost majored in culinary arts that's how much I love to be in the kitchen. However, I've never taken to wearing aprons, I've never seen the point, I'm not sure why. I really should take to wearing them to be quite honest; when I work with tomatoes, I almost always seem to be wearing white and I'll tell you one thing... a turmeric/chili powder/cumin/diced tomato concoction (otherwise known as Chana Masala-one of my favorite things to eat!) does not easily come out of white...

So anyway, I was going to skip over sewing the apron but as my mother reminded me, Julie did not skip over any of Julia Child's recipes nor should I skip over sewing C & C's apron, no matter how silly and frilly it is. I will learn from it. But aside from it being silly and frilly and my not being a silly frilly kind of gal (I dislike ruffles) I didn't care to spend money on this project; I don't like to spend money on things I know I won't use... and I didn't think I had enough fabric or refashionable items in my stash to spring out this project.

Well I did, and I didn't skip over it because I did say I would sew my way through the entire blog and by golly that's what I'll do... I might even wear it ;) but probably not LOL

So I had this dress, that I got from my friend Denie whom I miss a TON. She was cleaning out her house one day and I happened to be there with my nugget. Lucky day! It was really big on me and I had been hanging on to it not having any idea what I would do with it.

Well since I had no other plans for it, it seemed like it's second life was meant to be an apron. I left off the top ruffle and pocket as there wasn't enough contrasting fabric to make these pieces. The original hem of the dress was the polka dot and the backing to the polka dot was the plain black. I seam-ripped them apart and used them as you see here. The lining of the original dress is used as the lining of the apron. I did seam rip everything apart before cutting.

Okay, I admit, it's pretty darn cute! We'll see if I use it ;)

I'm REALLY excited about the next project, simple as it may be. An infinity scarf... but I got the CUTEST fabric for only $2.99 at JoAnn's! What a score! Can't wait to show you!
